Orienteering
is a competitive form of land navigation.
It is for all ages and degrees of fitness
and skill. It provides the suspense and
excitement of a treasure hunt. The object
of orienteering is to locate control points
by using a map and compass to navigate through
the woods. Recreational and competitive
events may be done on/in:The courses may
be as long as 10 km.
Events can be designed where the participants
prove their arrival by doing a special activity,
solving a problem, answering a question
or retrieving an object. Events can be designed
for all ages. The possibilities are only
limited by one's imagination.

This activity is a great way to discover the
Catalan countryside as the
courses are usually set in a nature reserve
just outside Barcelona city.
Most orienteering events use staggered starts
to ensure that each orienteer has a chance
to do his or her own navigating, but there
are several other popular formats, including
relays and events in which the orienteer must
find as many controls as possible within a
specified time.
